Multilayer farming, also known as multi-layer or multi-tier farming, is an advanced agricultural technique where multiple crops are grown together on the same piece of land, but at different heights and layers simultaneously. This system is a form of intercropping and is designed to maximize the use of vertical and horizontal space, sunlight, water, and soil nutrients. These crops mature at different times and heights, allowing efficient use of resources and space.

The Miyawaki method is a forest restoration technique developed by Japanese botanist Dr. Akira Miyawaki in the 1970s. It involves planting a dense mix of native tree and shrub species very close together-typically about three seedlings per square meter-to mimic the natural structure and diversity of a mature forest. This dense planting encourages rapid root and canopy development, leading to forests that grow up to 10 times faster and are up to 100 times more biodiverse than conventional plantations.
